Most business owners think the sale starts when someone picks up the phone. It does not. By the time a potential client contacts you, they have already done significant research – and formed a strong opinion about whether you are the right fit.

Step 1 – They Google the Problem

Nobody searches for a business they have never heard of. They search for the problem they need solved. If your business is not appearing on Google for those searches, you simply do not exist to the people most ready to buy.

Step 2 – They Spend About 8 Seconds on Your Website

Eye-tracking studies show that visitors decide to stay or leave within eight seconds. In that time they are asking: Does this look credible? Is this relevant? Do I know what to do next? If any of those answers are unclear, they go back to Google and click the next result.

Step 3 – They Read Your Google Reviews

They are not just looking at the star rating. They are reading the most recent reviews, checking whether you respond to negative ones, and noting how long ago the last review was left. Unanswered negatives and long gaps between reviews are both flags.

Step 4 – They Check Your Social Media

Social media has become a credibility check. A dormant profile raises doubts about whether the business is still active. An active, consistent presence builds quiet confidence before any conversation has happened.

Step 5 – They Have Nearly Made Their Decision

By the time they reach out, they have already compared you to competitors and decided whether to trust you. The enquiry is closer to the end of the sale than the beginning. Which means everything that happens before it is where the real work is done.

Your Google presence, your website, your reviews, and your social media are all doing selling on your behalf – whether you have thought about them that way or not.

If any of this resonates with where your business is right now, we would love to help you figure out the right next step.
