Well. Links are no longer the Big Thing in Google ranking - allegedly; Reddit flexes its new-found muscles over users ad choices; Google Optimize shutters as Google trashes yet another service; on the flip side Google is mentioned as "adjusting" bid prices for Google Ads; and Apple turns down little-known Bing in favour of $19 billion from Google as a defensive measure against Chrome.

Attention all digital enthusiasts! Google's "Helpful Content Update" is here, rewarding high-quality content. But that's not all - TikTok is stepping up its game by incorporating Wikipedia snippets into its search results. Meanwhile, Google faces Antitrust proceedings in the U.S. And in email marketing, are we forgetting our mobile-first approach? Let's discuss!

This week all manner of excitement unleashed itself on Twitter / X / X-TAFKAT as it rebranded itself in a very janky manner - this will be a case study in future years; Google, FB and others had recession-defying ad revenue increases; TikTok is muscling in on text, Google Ads is pushing us inexorably towards Performance Max campaigns, and I go on a bit of a rant about the idiocy of email open rates. Fun!

This week's Digital Update is almost fully AI (literally). If we didn't have AI, what would we have to talk about? Literally, something to do with actual digital marketing, but there we go. Like the web in the late 90s, AI is this generation's paradigmatic shift. Read on, good info, enjoy. Like share and follow please :-)

Apple Flings Bing, Nestles With Google

2017-10-06T17:59:19+11:00Categories: SEO News|Tags: , , , , , , |

I like the idea of Apple flinging Bing. Nearly as much as I like this story. It's not really happening for Bing, as this story expounds. Getting ditched by Apple & Siri is a bit like getting ditched by someone who used to be really famous, but now... Perhaps Microsoft will truly "pwn" the desktop search market instead. And perhaps the desktop searchers can meet in the same clubhouse as the Bing User Group, #SEO #SEONews #Apple #Bing #Google #MobileSearch #DesktopSearch

TWIS SEO News & Updates w/e 29 Sept 2017

This week's SEO News & Updates have had an extra 24 hours to mature due to the long weekend in Australia. I think they are even more tasty for it. Google is still denying Fred was an update. SEJ release another rubbish poll. Apple ditches Bing on Siri for Google. Google Shopping rejigged but only for EU. Plenty of  smart speaker owners have given voice purchasing a go. And some delightfully distracting SEO Bits & Pieces. #SEO #SEONews #GoogleUpdates #MarketResearch #Bing #GoogleShopping #VoiceSearch

Bing Says Links Are Still Important For Rankings

2017-09-28T19:31:25+10:00Categories: SEO News|Tags: , , , , |

I had to chuckle at this story. Bing, a small search engine, used by about 15 people at the last count*, has said that links are still important for rankings. In other news, the sun will rise in the east tomorrow, and set in the west. It will be brighter than the night.  I am intrigued, however, by where Bing might go with voice search and who they might go there with.  Click the link to read the revelations of the century. *The Bing User Group meet every Tuesday in the clubhouse. #SEO #SEONews #Bing #Links #LinkBuilding

I enjoyed writing this week's SEO News & Updates. So much so, I thought I'd share them with you lovely people ;-) This week: Google likes the algo monitoring tools - kinda. 301 redirects don't dilute PageRank. Or do they. Bing says links still important. Who Bing? Google doesn't use disavow for linkspam. *cough* This week Google says it doesn't use click data for search rankings. Sigh. As well as some toptastic SEO Bits & Pieces. Read it all right now. #SEO #SEONews #Redirects #PageRank #Links #Bing #LinkSpam #SERP
