Google: Most Sites Rank Without Link Building

2017-11-30T22:09:17+11:00Categories: SEO News|Tags: , , , |

I think John Mueller was stirring the pot a little bit with this quip. Undoubtedly many sites will rank without links for some bizarro terms, but... try ranking for non-brand, competitive commercial terms without them. Go on, I dare you. Of course he could have meant most sites don't need to go on a sustained link *building* adventure. Thoughts? Local SEO Ranking Factors: Reviews Most Important

2018-10-19T13:57:31+11:00Categories: SEO News, SEO Tutorials|Tags: , , , , , , , , |

Honestly, you wait ages for a major SEO Ranking Factors study and then two come along at once: this one is a good one on Local SEO Ranking Factors.  Somewhat unsurprisingly, it finds that Reviews (and websites!) are the most important local SEO Ranking Factors. It's not quite as contentious as another recent study... Read more in this extract from TWIS SEO News & Updates w/e 17th November 2017. #SEO #SEONews #LocalSEO #Reviews #RankingFactors

Google – No Manual Action No Disavow

2017-11-18T07:49:06+11:00Categories: SEO News|Tags: , , , , , |

Well now. Disavowing links is a thorny issue, and Gary Illyes has waded right in there. Google is now saying you don't really need to spend your time submitting link disavow files to Google unless you've got a Manual Action from the webspam team. Unsurprisingly, some webmasters disagree. Often they have built services on disavowing links. Yet Another Rubbish Poll from SEJ

2017-10-05T22:03:11+11:00Categories: SEO News|Tags: , , , , |

I love a good poll with insightful data and, well, insights. This isn't one of them, sadly. See for yourself. If I wasn't quite so trusting, I'd think venerable SEJ was doing a bit of shameless link-baiting, running a big poll, mentioning other biggish SEO brands. They wouldn't do that to us, would they? This is an extract from TWIS SEO News & Updates 29 Sept 2017. That's worth a read as well. #SEO #SEONews #MarketResearch #AccurateData #LinkBuilding

Bing Says Links Are Still Important For Rankings

2017-09-28T19:31:25+10:00Categories: SEO News|Tags: , , , , |

I had to chuckle at this story. Bing, a small search engine, used by about 15 people at the last count*, has said that links are still important for rankings. In other news, the sun will rise in the east tomorrow, and set in the west. It will be brighter than the night.  I am intrigued, however, by where Bing might go with voice search and who they might go there with.  Click the link to read the revelations of the century. *The Bing User Group meet every Tuesday in the clubhouse. #SEO #SEONews #Bing #Links #LinkBuilding

It just shows that when Google fires a warning shot across the bow, people tend to take notice. Link Spam – Should Google Ignore or Penalise?

2018-11-13T15:15:55+11:00Categories: SEO|Tags: , , , , , , |

This post discusses Google running into a bit of trouble with links. After going through a period of penalising LinkSpam, Google has been ignoring bad links algorithmically more recently. This has now led to a rise of new spam techniques, especially with the rise in Content Marketing. It's likely there will be a focus on linking penalties in the near future.  If you would like to discuss ways Google is ignoring links, and ways to generate good quality back links, please feel free to contact me. #SEO #LinkSpam #LinkBuilding #GooglePenalties
