Well. Links are no longer the Big Thing in Google ranking - allegedly; Reddit flexes its new-found muscles over users ad choices; Google Optimize shutters as Google trashes yet another service; on the flip side Google is mentioned as "adjusting" bid prices for Google Ads; and Apple turns down little-known Bing in favour of $19 billion from Google as a defensive measure against Chrome.

What an exciting AI filled week it’s been. Just like many other weeks recently. Some brands are now blocking GPTBot (until offered cash, no doubt), Lyft is slapping ads into its app, Meta is being useful, Google is actually stopping UA processing (sniff), and there’s been another Google Core Update to pontificate over. Local SEO Ranking Factors: Reviews Most Important

2023-12-09T08:02:42+11:00Categories: SEO News, SEO Tutorials|Tags: , , , , , , , , |

Honestly, you wait ages for a major SEO Ranking Factors study and then two come along at once: this one is a good one on Local SEO Ranking Factors.  Somewhat unsurprisingly, it finds that Reviews (and websites!) are the most important local SEO Ranking Factors. It's not quite as contentious as another recent study... Read more in this extract from TWIS SEO News & Updates w/e 17th November 2017. #SEO #SEONews #LocalSEO #Reviews #RankingFactors

Bing Says Links Are Still Important For Rankings

2023-12-07T15:59:37+11:00Categories: SEO News|Tags: , , , |

I had to chuckle at this story. Bing, a small search engine, used by about 15 people at the last count*, has said that links are still important for rankings. In other news, the sun will rise in the east tomorrow, and set in the west. It will be brighter than the night.  I am intrigued, however, by where Bing might go with voice search and who they might go there with.  Click the link to read the revelations of the century. *The Bing User Group meet every Tuesday in the clubhouse. #SEO #SEONews #Bing #Links #LinkBuilding

I enjoyed writing this week's SEO News & Updates. So much so, I thought I'd share them with you lovely people ;-) This week: Google likes the algo monitoring tools - kinda. 301 redirects don't dilute PageRank. Or do they. Bing says links still important. Who Bing? Google doesn't use disavow for linkspam. *cough* This week Google says it doesn't use click data for search rankings. Sigh. 2023-12-05T18:32:54+11:00Categories: SEO|Tags: , , , , , |

Wow. Google gave some incorrect 301 redirect advice, which you can read in this post. It centres around redirecting 404s and speaks from a Google perspective, rather than a webmaster / user perspective.  If you would like to discuss the ways you should implement 301 redirects and the impact not doing them could have on your web business, please feel free to contact me. #SEO #Redirects #SiteMigrations #TechnicalSEO
