Google Dumps AJAX Crawling Scheme

Hooray! At long last Google is dumping escaped fragment URLs.

JavaScript developers the world over can breathe a sigh of relief.

Unless they ignored Google’s warning two years ago that they were going to End of Life it.

And didn’t do anything about it.

In which case they’ll be shocked.

Devs would never do that, would they?

This is an extract from TWIS SEO News & Updates 8th December 2017.

Python Simple 404 Checker

I hate wasting time doing the same thing over and over and over again*.

So I wrote this little python tool to check for a 404 Header Response for a made-up URL on a domain to save me from the drudgery of doing it by hand, to give me absolute consistency of checking, and to give me an audit trail of URLs checked and responses.

*unless it’s perfectly acceptable time-wasting like watching cat videos, obviously.

A Python Script To Check Canonical Domain Redirects

So, I got really bored and frustrated checking a bunch of domains for a client to see if their domains 301 redirected all variants from http to https and from non-www to www. There are only so many times you can type:

curl -I http://domain.com

Using my limited knowledge of Python, I crafted this simple little script to do the leg work for me and report back its findings in a readable format which can be slapped straight into an email that even devs can understand (j/k).

Google Posts Added to Google My Business API

I’m really pleased that Google has finally added Posts to the GMB API. It makes them useful at last.

It’s partly due to the way of rolling out projects, and partly due to Google being a bit silly at times.

Either way, I think these Google Posts have a real opportunity to help webmasters gain more SERP real estate, and increase click-throughs and action.
